MUNCIE, Ind. - Tailgating at Ball State football games has developed into quite a tradition over the last few years in Muncie.
However, just down the street from Scheumann Stadium, it's hard for the Schembra-family tailgate not to catch the attention of volleyball fans at Worthen Arena.
"My family is very supportive," says sophomore Kaylee Schembra. "My family has a rich tradition at Ball State, so it means a lot. When I decided to come here and play volleyball, everyone was really excited."
The daughter of Larry and Kathy Schembra, Kaylee is the fourth member of her immediate family to put on a Cardinals' uniform. Her orlder brothers, Sean (1999-2002) and Tommy (2001-04), were four-year letterwinners in football, while her mother was also a two-sport star at BSU.
Kathy, who graduated from Ball State in 1972 after playing both field hockey and softball, has earned the Ball State Alumnus of the Year award three times (1981, 1998 and 2006).
"Kaylee grew up thinking Ball State was on the only university there was," says Kathy Schembra. "She thought it was the only place to go to college."
The Ball State women's volleyball team - and the Schembra-family tailgate - all return to Worthen Arena with a pair of matches this weekend. The Cardinals host Eastern Michigan Nov. 6 and Central Michigan Nov. 8
