
Women?s Swimming & Diving Falls At Ohio

ATHENS, Ohio - - Despite a pair of first-place finishes from freshman breaststroke sensation Emily Haifley (Roanoke, Ind./Homestead H.S.), the Ball State women's swimming and diving team suffered a 126-172 setback to Mid-American Conference rival Ohio Saturday afternoon at the Ohio Aquatic Center.
With the loss, the Cardinals drop to 2-6 (1-5 MAC) on the year, while the defending MAC Champion Bobcats improve to 6-3 (3-3 MAC).
One week after setting the school record in the 200 breaststroke with a clocking of 2:19.49, Haifley posted a time of 2:20.58 in the event versus the Bobcats to beat the closest competitor by over a second. Haifley also took first-place in the 100 breaststroke with an effort of 1:05.50.
Overall, the Cardinals collected four individual first-place efforts in the 16-event competition, as Maria Gramelspacher (Jasper, Ind./Jasper H.S.) took top billing in the 100 butterfly (57.61) and Lisa Maertin (New Lenox, Ill./Lincoln Way-Central H.S.) captured first on the 3-meter diving board (247.80).
Both the men's and women's squads will conclude the regular season Feb. 6, with a 7 p.m. meet at Miami.

MEET PREVIEW
MUNCIE, Ind. - - The Ball State women's swimming & diving team returns to action Saturday, when it visits defending Mid-American Conference Champions Ohio for a 1 p.m. swim at the Ohio Aquatic Center.
The Cardinals enter the meet with a 2-5 (1-4 MAC) record, while the Bobcats are 5-3 (2-3 MAC). In last season's dual meet, BSU suffered a 135-165 setback to Ohio.
Entering the meet, reigning MAC Swimmer of the Week Emily Haifley ranks third in the league in the 200 breaststroke after breaking the school record with a time of 2:19.49 in last weekend's meet versus Eastern Michigan. Haifley also ranks fourth in the MAC in the 100 breaststroke with the third fastest individual time in program history at 1:05.13.
Lauren Harger joins Haifley in the breaststroke rankings, holding down the No. 16 slot in the 100 (1:06.38) and the No. 19 slot in the 200 (2:24.92),
Mary Ehresman enters the week ranked 13th in the MAC in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 10:29.76, while ranking 17th in the league in the 1650 freestyle with an effort of 17:40.41. Ehresman also ranks 14th among league swimmers in the 400 IM at 4:34.84.
Meghan Patterson holds down the 20th slot in the league in the 1650 freestyle at 17:45.13, while Erika Paul ranks 20th in the 200 IM at 2:10.86.
In the 100 backstroke, Nicole Saulters ranks 20th among all league swimmers with a time of 59.47, while Megan Ploetz and Maria Gramelspacher rank 11th (2:06.98) and 20th (2:08.86), respectively, in the 200 butterfly.
In the diving events, Lisa Maertin's NCAA Zone Diving qualifying marks of 282.00 (3-Meter) and 281.85 (1-Meter) have her ranked sixth in each event. Christina Riordan is close behind, ranking seventh on the 3-meter board (265.80) and ninth on the 1-meter board (253.44).
Overall, BSU boasts six of the MAC's top 20 divers on the 3-meter board, while having seven divers ranked in the top 20 on the 1-meter board.
After Saturday's meet, both the men's and women's squads will conclude the regular season Feb. 6, with a 7 p.m. meet at Miami.
