Gymnastics Team at Kent State Friday

The Ball State University women's gymnastics team, under the direction of second-year head coach Nadalie Walsh, will take its 1-1 overall record to Kent State Friday for a 7 p.m. meet.
The Cardinals, 0-1 in the Mid-American Conference, opened the season with a victory at Penn, and then suffered a setback to conference foe Bowling Green last Sunday.
Fifth-year senior Teresa Phipps has been the team's top performer this season. She won the balance beem event with a 9.675 at Penn, and then posted a victory on the beam at Bowling Green with a 9.750. Phipps was also Ball State's top performer on the floor exercise last Sunday with a 9.725.
Ball State freshman Brittney Emmons is off to a strong start after winning the floor exercise with a 9.775 at Penn, and then earning the Cardinals' top score on the vault with a 9.625 at Bowling Green. Nichole Sleeper, who was named the MAC Specialist of the Week for her performance at Penn, won the floor exercise at Penn with a 9.775.
Kent State won the MAC Championship in 2008 and was selected in the coaches preseason poll as the favorite to win the 2009 title. The Golden Flashes are 1-2 overall and 0-0 in the MAC.
