The Ball State women's gymnastics team will take its 1-0 record on the road for a Sunday meet at Bowling Green scheduled to begin at 2 p.m. The Sunday meet will be the Mid-American Conference opener for the Cardinals, while the Falcons opened the 2009 season with a league loss at Northern Illinois last Sunday.
The Cardinals, under the direction of second-year head coach Nadalie Walsh, opened the 2009 season with a 190.725-184.350 victory at Penn Jan. 9.
Freshman Nichole Sleeper opened the season with a 9.875 winning score on the vault and earned MAC Specialist of the Week honors for her performance at Penn. Junior Bibiana Rodriguez-Lockwood won the uneven bars with a 9.800 score, while freshman Brittney Emmons won the floor exercise with a 9.775. Senior Teresa Phipps won the balance beam with a 9.675 score and the all-around with a 38.325 score.
Bowling Green owns a 20-12 advantage in the all-time series vs. Ball State, and won last year's competition by a 188.100-187.050 margin.
Bowling Green head coach Kerrie Beach was the head coach at Wisconsin-Oshkosh from 2000-03, and Walsh served as an assistant for the Titans under the tutelage of Beach. When Beach left the school to become an assistant coach at Bowling Green, Walsh was named UW-Oshkosh's head mentor and guided the Titans to the 2007 National Collegiate Gymnastics Association National Championship in her final season before being named the Cardinals head coach.
