January 12, 2009 | Gymnastics
Julie Cotter (Orefield, Pa./Northwestern Lehigh H.S.) has transferred from the University of Alabama and will compete on the Ball State University women's gymnastics team, according to second-year head coach Nadalie Walsh.
Cotter graduated from Northwestern Lehigh H.S. last May and enrolled at Alabama as a member of the gymnastics team. She transferred to Ball State and began classes at the start of the second semester. Cotter was a member of the Level 10 National Team and earned silver in the all-around and vault plus earned bronze on the uneven bars and floor exercise at the 2006 Level 10 National Championships. She competed at the 2008 Level 10 Regionals and placed second in the vault and third in the all-around, but was not able to compete at the Nationals due to an ankle injury. Cotter, who completed for the club team, Parkettes, placed second in the uneven bars at the 2008 Level 10 State Championships. Ball State started the 2009 season with a 190.725-184.350 victory at Penn last Friday. The Cardinals return to action Sunday in a Mid-American Conference meet at Bowling Green.
