September 24, 2008 | Football
Derrick Henry (Columbus, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne H.S.), a sophomore defensive back on the Ball State University football team, was named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in Ball State's 42-20 win at Indiana last Saturday.
Henry joins MiQuale Lewis (Fort Wayne, Ind./Snider H.S.) as a recipient for a MAC weekly honor. Lewis was earlier named the MAC West Offensive Player of the Week for his achievements in the Indiana game. Henry had a team-high nine tackles and a tackle for loss to help the Cardinals to the win and the team's first 4-0 start since the 1988 campaign when the team started the season at 5-0. He helped Ball State's defense limit Indiana to just one touchdown in the game and zero points in the second half. Lewis scored four touchdowns, while gaining a career-high 166 yards. The four touchdowns tied the Ball State single-game school record. Lewis also tallied his third straight 100-yard rushing game. Ball State football will host Kent State for its 82nd Homecoming Game Saturday at Noon in Scheumann Stadium.
