Gymnastics Signs Four Gymnasts for the 2008 Season

MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State University gymnastics coach Nadalie Walsh has signed four gymnasts for the 2008 season. Domenique DeRosa (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood), Brittney Emmons (Pace, Fla./Tate), Daneen Ellen Haba (Collierville, Tenn./Houston) and Kayla Kmiecik (Avon, Ohio/Magnificat) have signed National Letters of Intent to compete for BSU.
"I am excited for these four gymnasts to join our Cardinal family," said Walsh. "These girls will bring a lot of experience and high level skills to our program. I am pleased that they are going to be my first recruiting class, especially with the high level of difficulty that they have in their routines."
DeRosa is a level 10 gymnast who helped her team take the state championship title in 2008. In 2007, DeRosa took fourth at the regional championship. She was a three-time national qualifier. For DeRosa's career she finished with career-bests of 37.5 in the all-around, a 9.65 on beam and a 9.7 on floor.
Emmons, an all-around competitor from Florida, competes at level 10. Emmons most recently was crowned state champion on vault and floor. Emmons was a 2004 national floor champion, and she is a five-time level 10 regional qualifier. A 2007 regional floor champion, Emmons qualified for the U.S. Classic and Challenge in 2004 with a 13th place finish in the all-around. Emmons was is also a 2007 state champion on vault.
As a level 10 gymnast, Haba was a three-time national qualifier. She was a level 8 regional team member. Haba was a state champion in levels 8-10. She was a six-time regional qualifier and two-time national qualifier (2004 and 2007). The "Haba" was a bar dismount named after her at the 2007 nationals.
Kmiecik is the last of the four signees who is a level 10 competitor. In 2008 she was an all-around and floor state champion. Kmiecik qualified for the Junior Olympic Nationals in 2006 and 2007. A five-time regional qualifier, Kmiecik is a three-time AAU all-around champion and was a member of the Gold Medal team in 2004 for the International Children's Games. She is a three-time state champion on bars (2006, 2007 and 2008). Kmiecik was Magnificat High School's Athlete of the Year as a junior and senior.
