April 23, 2008 | Women's Volleyball
MUNCIE, Ind. - - Christie Waters (Muncie, Ind./Burris Laboratory School) has signed a national letter of intent to attend Ball State University and compete for the women's volleyball program, according to second-year head coach Dave Boos.
"Christie is the ideal player for Ball State Volleyball," said Boos. "She has been trained by Coach Steve Shondell at Burris and will come in with an elite set of skills. Christie is a complete volleyball player that will come to Ball State and contribute immediately. She also understands what it takes to win, having won four state championships at Burris."
Waters is the fourth player to sign with the Cardinals under Boos, joining Jennifer Boyd (Evans City, Pa./Seneca Valley H.S./Renaissance Volleyball Club), Brittany McGinnis (Fraser, Mich./Fraser H.S./Michigan Elite) and Kaylee Schembra (Indianapolis, Ind./Roncalli H.S./Circle City) who each signed national letters of intent during the early signing period. The four are also joined by Alisha Green (Country Club Hills, Ill./Hillcrest H.S.) who transferred to Ball State after spending two seasons at the University of Tampa where she helped guide the Spartans to the 2006 NCAA Division II National Championship
A four-year letterwinner at Burris, Waters will be no stranger to Worthen Arena when she continues her academic pursuits at BSU, having guided the Owls to the 2007 Class 2A state title on the Worthen Arena court by logging a match-best 15 digs, while adding eight kills and a pair of aces in a 3-0 sweep of Brownstown Central.
A first team all-state and all-conference selection the past two years, Waters finished her senior season at Burris with a team-high 308 digs, while smashing 229 kills and serving up 56 aces. In addition to winning four state titles with the Owls, Waters helped guide the program to a perfect 40-0 record her freshman season and a 148-12 mark over her career, including a 28-0 ledger in conference play.
Waters finished her playing career at Burris with 866 digs, 613 kills and 148 aces in 364 games. A second-team all-state honoree as a sophomore, Waters also won a national championship with her Munciana 14's club team. Her Munciana 13's team was a national runner-up, while her 12's squad placed fifth in the national tournament.
