Baseball Snowed Out Of Weekend Series With Akron
March 22, 2008 | Baseball
KENT, Ohio -- The Ball State baseball team's weekend series against Akron has been cancelled. The series had been delayed and moved to Kent State, which provided a more playable location. But overnight snow in Kent forced the cancellation of the weekend's games.
The series was scheduled to be the Mid-American Conference opener for both teams. Instead, Ball State will open MAC play next weekend with another road trip to Kent State.
Before that series, Ball State is scheduled to play two midweek games. The Cardinals travel to Notre Dame for a 5:05 p.m. contest Tuesday. The team is then slated to play Anderson at home at 3 p.m. Wednesday. That game was originally scheduled for last Tuesday but was rained out.
Including this weekend's three scheduled games, Ball State has had five consecutive contests wiped out by weather. In addition to last Tuesday's game with Anderson, Ball State's Wednesday contest with Indianapolis was also rained out.
The series with Akron was slated to start Friday, but unplayable conditions at the Zips' Lee Jackson Field forced play back by a day. The series was then shifted to Kent State's Olga A. Mural Field at Schoonover Stadium, which offered a better chance to play because of its Field Turf playing surface. The snow Friday night, however, forced the complete cancellation of the series, which will not be made up.
