February 20, 2008 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- A near record crowd of 210 people turned out Friday, Feb. 16, for the Ball State baseball program's fifth annual Meet the Team Night at the Ball State University Alumni Center.
The evening provided an opportunity for fans and supporters of Ball State baseball to meet the players and coaches. Additionally, sixth-year head coach Greg Beals provided his outlook on the upcoming season.
Those in attendance also had the opportunity to participate in a live auction for items ranging from a framed, autographed picture of Alex Rodriguez to an NBA basketball signed by LeBron James. Along with those large items, various additional items were up for bid through a silent auction.
The event, organized by pitching coach Mike Stafford, raised nearly $8,000 for the Ball State baseball program.
"This is a great way to kick off the 2008 season," Stafford said. "It's kind of like a rally to get everyone excited about Ball State baseball. We are very happy with the amount of support we receive from our almumni and friends and family of the program."
Ball State opens its season this weekend with a four-game series at UAB, starting Friday at 3 p.m. The Cardinals play 17 games on the road before their home opener March 18 versus Anderson at Ball Diamond.
