September 10, 2007 | Football
Bryant Haines (Piqua, Ohio/Piqua H.S.), a junior linebacker for the Ball State University football team, has been named the Mid-American Conference West Division Defensive Player of the Week for his performance in the Cardinals 38-16 win at Eastern Michigan Saturday.
Haines led Ball State with 12 tackles and led a defense that limited the Eagles to 262 yards of total offense and only one touchdown. Haines anchored a defense that allowed Eastern Michigan only 107 rushing yards on 28 carries, while the Eagles amassed only 11 first downs in the game.
This marks the first time in Haines career he has been honored with the MAC's weekly award.
Ball State, 1-1 overall and 1-0 in the MAC West Division, will play a non-conference game at Navy Saturday at 5 p.m. The game will be televised on CSTV and can be heard on the Ball State Radio Network or via the web at www.ballstatesports.com.
