MUNCIE, Ind. - Ball State head football coach Brady Hoke has announced the Cardinals 2007 captains which were selected by their teammates.
Fifth-year senior defensive end Cortlan Booker (West Lafayette, Ind./West Lafayette), Fifth-year senior strong safety Chris Allen (Dayton, Ohio/Wayne) and junior center Dan Gerberry (Austintown, Ohio/Austintown Fitch) will lead the Cardinals as captains.
"These three individuals are very deserving of this honor," Coach Hoke says. "Their teammates have shown confidence in them to lead the 2007 Ball State football team. We are looking forward to their leadership and making the Ball State football program the best it can be."
Booker was a 2006 All-Mid-American Conference Second Team selection. He started all 12 games for Ball State last year and is a three-year letterwinner. Booker was also a MAC West Division Player of the Week after helping the Cardinals to a 30-6 win in the season finale over Kent State.
Allen played in every contest for the Cardinals last season. He ranked 10th on the team in tackles with two starts against Eastern Michigan and Western Michigan.
Gerberry earned his second letter last season after starting all 12 games for Ball State. He helped protect quarterbacks Joey Lynch and Nate Davis, who combined to throw for a school record 3,112 yards and 27 touchdowns.
All three captains will start at their respective positions.
Ball State will host Miami University on Thursday, Aug. 30 at newly rennovated Scheumann Stadium. Kick-off is at 7 p.m.
