MUNCIE, Ind. -- Amber Williams has earned a spot on the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor Track and Field All-America Team, as announced by the U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association.
In Division I track and field, the top eight finishers in each event at the NCAA Outdoor Championships, including relays, are eligible for All-America status.
In the individual events, if one or more of the top eight finishers are of another nationality, eight American-born athletes are selected in addition to any foreign-born All- Americans.
Ninety-one schools are represented on the 2007 NCAA Division I Women's Outdoor All-America Team
Williams ran 13.35 in the first round of the 100-meter hurdles at the NCAA Championships. She was the 18th qualifier for the semi-finals out of 28 entrants in the event.
The next day Williams ran in the semi-finals. The top four finishers from the two heats automatically qualify for the finals as well as the next fastest time to set up a nine person final.
Williams clocked in at 13.18, which breaks the previous BSU school record that she set at the NCAA Mideast Regional Championships of 13.19. However, Williams placed fifth in her heat and was the first runner eliminated out of the finals.
Williams is the first BSU track and field female athlete to be named an All-American since Patricia Soman. Soman was selected as an All-American in 2003 during the indoor track season.
Williams improved her ?A' standard qualifying time for the USA Track and Field Championships which she will be competing in June 20-23 in Indianapolis, Ind.
