
Men's Tennis Falls To MAC Leader Western Michigan 5-2

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team (8-12, 2-1 MAC) dropped a 5-2 loss to its Mid-American Conference rival No. 55 Western Michigan (15-7, 4-0 MAC) on Saturday afternoon at the YMCA Tennis Center.
The Ball State No. 1 doubles tandem of Joe Epkey and Jose Perdomo pulled off an 8-3 upset over No. 34 Bryan Norville and Alex Birchmeier. Western Michigan was able to come back and win at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots to earn the doubles point.
In singles play Jarrod Epkey was the first one to lose his match to Birchmeier 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4. BSU's Perdomo knocked off Kevin Hayward at the No. 3 flight by a score of 6-0, 7-6 (5). Aaron Phillips dropped his match to Brady Crosby, 6-4, 6-2 at No. 2. Bret Berryman won his match for the Cardinals at No. 5 beating the Broncos John Pelton 6-3, 3-6, 6-1. Joe Epkey came back at No. 1 after being down a set but lost in the third to Tim Bradshaw, 7-6 (4), 4-6, 6-4. Joe Vallee ended the day for Ball State with a near win to Bryan Norville losing the match in a tie breaker 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (5).
Ball State will play a non-conference match on Tuesday, April 17 at Indiana State. The match is set to begin at 3 p.m.
