DeGeeter Named MAC Male Scholar Athlete Of The Week
March 09, 2007 | Baseball
Ball State senior baseball player Ryan DeGeeter has been named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar Athlete of the Week for the week ending March 4, as announced Friday by the league office.
DeGeeter led Ball State to a 4-2 win Sunday at Austin Peay. The right-hander threw 7.0 innings without allowing an earned run, striking out seven batters and walking none. He allowed only three hits.
The senior exercise science major owns a 3.747 GPA.
In Sunday's win, DeGeeter faced the minimum number of batters through the first three innings. He allowed one hit during that stretch, a one-out infield single, but induced the next batter to ground into an inning-ending double play.
DeGeeter allowed his only run of the game - an unearned run - in the fourth inning on two Cardinal errors. He allowed one baserunner in the fifth inning and then sent Austin Peay down in order in the sixth and seventh innings before giving way to Ball State closer Kyle Heyne.
With the win, DeGeeter improved his record to 1-2 and lowered his ERA to 3.86. DeGeeter is scheduled to pitch again Sunday against Bethune-Cookman in the final game for Ball State at the Myrtle Beach Hyundai Isuzu Classic.
