Gymnastics Travels To Eastern Michigan
March 07, 2007 | Gymnastics
This Week: The Ball State University women's gymnastics team travels to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, March 10. The Cardinals have already faced the Eagles this season (Feb. 17) which resulted in a 191.900 to 189.450 loss for BSU. The Cardinals will also face Central Michigan and Illinois State.
Last Meet: It was a record breaking night for the Ball State University women's gymnastics team (2-6, 1-4 MAC) as they rocked the house after pulling off a spectacular 192.450 to 191.450 victory over Northern Illinois (Feb. 23) at Irving Gym. The Cardinals' team score of 192.450 was their highest mark of the season and the best recorded final score under head coach Lisa Simonton. BSU only lost one event to the Huskies and that was on vault. Ball State earned a season-high 48.150 on beam and on floor after compiling a 48.850 total. Kelly Watson was the only Cardinal to compete in the all-around. Watson pulled in a score of 38.650 which was a career and season high for the veteran. Watson placed fourth on vault (9.700) and on beam (9.675). Watson took seventh on bars (9.425) but rebounded with a crowd pleasing floor routine which brought the fans to their feet. Watson took first place on floor after scoring a personal best, 9.850.
This Week's Thoughts from Head Coach Lisa Simonton:
"This upcoming meet at Eastern Michigan will be a great indicator for our program as to where we stand against not only EMU but also versus Central Michigan. There will be 4 events going on at the same time with Illinois State in the mix...it will definitely be very exciting for the athletes and the fans. We are coming off of a great win at home against Northern Illinois and then we had a much needed weekend off to rest some minor injuries. We're looking forward to getting back on the competitive floor - to focus on our second half of season - where anything can happen! The team is looking very strong and determined to perform very well. We have been working on their individual concentration skills - being able to block out distractions - which will help us during the quad meet this weekend!"
