Women?s Tennis Downs UNC Wilmington, 4-3

WILMINGTON, N.C. ? The Ball State women's tennis team picked up a 4-3 victory over hosting UNC Wilmington on Thursday afternoon. The match came down to the final point as freshman Katherine Rist secured the win with a come-from-behind 2-1 win at No. 6 singles. The Cardinals took home the doubles point and split the singles points with the Seahawks.

The Cardinals' No. 1 doubles tandem of Haly Calderwood and Sophie Quist got things going by downing UNCW's Lauren Isenhour and Kayla Schwenk, 8-2. BSU secured the doubles points with the No. 3 team of Emma Retter and Katherine Rist with an 8-6 decision over UNCW's Cassie Martin and Hartley Collins. No. 2 doubles Christine Stromberg and Jennifer Pollack dropped an 8-6 decision to round out the doubles play.

Ball State started out strong in the singles matches as Quist took the No. 1 singles in straight sets over Molly Molony, 6-2, 6-3. The Cardinals added their second singles point at the No. 2 when Calderwood downed Priscilla Roberts in straight sets, 7-6, 6-2.

UNCW evened the match with wins at the No. 3, No. 4 and No. 5 to put the match-deciding point on the No.6 duel between Rist and Hartley Collins. Rist secured the Cardinals' win as she rallied from down a set to storm back and claim the final two sets for a 2-1 victory and the Cardinals' fourth point of the afternoon.

The victory was the first for BSU on its annual spring trip. The Cardinals will close out their spring trip on Saturday afternoon as they take on Charleston Southern at 10 a.m. at the CSU Tennis Courts.
