Softball Travels To Florida To Face Jacksonville

ABOUT THE GAMES
The Ball State softball team will travel to Jacksonville, Fla. to play two doubleheaders. . . The first doubleheader will be March 14 vs. Jacksonville Unviersity. . . Jacksonville comes into the game with a 6-21 overall record . . . The following day, Ball State will face North Florida in a doubleheader at 2 p.m. . . The Lady Ospreys are currently 13-12, but will face Maine in a doubleheader on March 14.
ABOUT THE CARDINALS
Ball State left the SIU Tournament with a 1-2 record and a 4-9 overall mark . . . The Cardinals have hammered 18 home runs this season which ties the single-season team home run record . . . Seniors Kelli Jeziorski and Taylor Yancey each have four home runs to lead the team . . . Jeziorkski is batting .244, with two doubles and 10 RBIs to go along with her four home runs . . . Yancey has a batting average of .306, seven RBIs, nine stolen bases and leads the team with 15 runs . . . Junior Abby Gross leads Ball State with a .400 batting average, 16 hits and four doubles . . . Freshman Elizabeth Milian has made an impact at the plate and on the mound . . . At the plate she is hitting .378 with two doubles and seven RBIs, while on the mound she is 2-2 overall with a 2.60 ERA.
ABOUT THE DOLPHINS
Jacksonville comes into the doubleheader with a 6-21 overall record . . . Junior Shannon Jensen leads the Dolphins in RBIs with 11 and in home runs with two . . . Freshman Ashley Mora has made an immediate impact by hitting seven doubles and earning 10 RBIs. . . Look for Ashley Iveson or Katie Buell to be on the mound for the Dolphins . . . Iveson has a 4.23 ERA to lead the team . . . Iveson is currently 3-6 on the season and has recorded 29 strikeouts in 49 innings . . . Buell comes into the doubleheader 2-5 with an ERA of 4.42 . . . She leads the team in strikeouts with 39 and also in innings pitched with 65 . . . Wednesday's game between Ball State and Jacksonville is the first time the two schools have faced each other.
ABOUT THE LADY OSPREYS
North Florida is currently 13-12 on the season . . . Junior Gwen Williams leads the Lady Ospreys with a .311 batting average, two doubles, one triple, one home run and 11 RBIs . . . Freshman Elizabeth Howell is batting .295 early in the season with 23 hits, four doubles, one home run and a team high 13 RBIs . . . Fellow freshman Devyn Findley leads the team on the mound, posting a 5-1 record with an ERA of 1.72 . . . Findley leads the team with 54 strikouts in 53 innings . . . Senior Katie Brosky posts a 2.32 ERA and has a record of 5-6 . . . Brosky has spent the most time on the mound, pitching 69 innings and recording 42 strikeouts . . . This contest marks the first game between Ball State and North Florida.
HOME RUN WATCH
The Cardinals have tied the single-season team home run record at 18 after hitting three home runs in the Kay Brechtelsbauer Southern Classic, last week . . . The record of 18 home runs was set by the 2005 team.
STEALING THE SHOW
The Cardinals have stolen 43 bases this season after only playing in three tournaments . . . Last year's team only stole 16 bases the entire season . . . At the current rate, BSU should challenge the school record of 98 stolen bases in a single season (1991).
GROSS DIGS THE LONG BALL
Junior Abby Gross currently ranks second all-time for career home runs with 10 . . . The record stands at 12 by Ruth Hjelmeland who played from 2000-03.
SENIOR SWING
Seniors Kelli Jeziorski and Taylor Yancey each have four home runs early in the 2007 season . . . The BSU single-season record for home runs in one season is six by Misty Snider during the 1999 season.

The 2007 Ball State team is complete with only 13 players. . . The team looks for leadership from the two seniors, Kelli Jeziorski and Taylor Yancey.
AROUND THE BASES
“Around the Bases with Coach Craig Nicholson” will be on Monday nights starting at 7 p.m. . . . The show will begin March 26th and will continue to the end of the season . . . Ball State will return to action March 16, to compete in the Speedline Tournament held in Tampa, Fla. . . . Ball State will face Wisconsin and Dartmouth on the 16 and then play South Florida on the 17.
