MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State women's swimming and diving team opened action on Friday night against the Toledo Rockets at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
The Cardinals fell to Toledo by a score of 212 to 88.
The Rockets took wins in the first six events until freshman Maria Gramelspacher took a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:07.48. She was accompanied by junior Erika Paul who finished third with a time of 2:10.75.
Ball State picked up its second victory of the match when senior Addison Del Rio, who paced the Cardinals with a time of 59.44, edged Elizabeth Hinkleman from Toledo by less than a second in the 100 butterfly.
Ball State scored a second-place in the 400-yard relay and missed a first-place finish by less than half of a second.
The 400 free foursome of Del Rio, Kelly Johnson, Gramelspacher and Katie Bylsma nearly gave Ball State its third victory of the match with a time of 3:36.42, but were beat out by the Rockets' group of Jancy Dyer, Meghan Reissig, Laura Heckroth and Ashley Cusak, who posted a time of 3:36.28.
Ball State will continue action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when it hosts Bowling Green at the Lewellen Aquatic Center.
