
Swimming & Diving Loses In MAC Action to Ohio

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's and women's swimming and diving team dropped its Mid-American Conference meet to Ohio on Saturday afternoon at Lewellen Aquatic Center. The Bobcats defeated the Cardinals in men's action, 145-98 while the women dropped its meet by a score of 179-121.
At both meets the Cardinals recognized their 2007 senior classes. The men dropped their first two events before freshman Ben Karwoski swam his way to a first place finish for BSU in the 200 free after clocking in a time of 1:44.69.
BSU won its next three events after that as freshman Ben Battjes recorded a time of 21.99 to win the 50 free. Senior Adam Konopka earned first in the 200 IM (1:57.79) and classmate Zach Whitaker took top honors in the 1-meter dive with a score of 289.35.
Konopka collected his second first place finish of the day after winning the 200 back (1:56.60) before the Cardinals dropped the remainder of events.
The Ball State women lost its first two events before sophomore Meghan Patterson won the 1000 free with a time of 10:40.34.
Freshman Emily Hurst earned first place in the 100 breast (1:07.18) and in the 200 breast (2:24.72). Teammate Erin Johnson took first in the 100 fly after clocking in a time of 58.96.
Junior Stephanie Paul placed second in the 3-meter dive with a score of 251.85.
The Cardinals closed the meet with a 200 free relay victory. The quartet of freshman Kelly Johnson, junior Michelle Huang, sophomore Erika Paul and senior Brittney Sayler swam to a 1:38.62 final time.
Ball State continues action when it travels to IUPUI on Wed., Jan. 31. The meet is set to begin at 6 pm.
