Ball State Men's Tennis Sweeps IUPUI In Spring Opener

MUNCIE, Ind. - The Ball State University men's tennis team (1-0, 0-0 MAC) defeated IUPUI (7-0) Saturday afternoon at the YMCA Tennis Center.
Joe Epkey the Cardinals No. 1 singles player blanked Gabrielle Garcia in the first set 6-0 and won the second set 6-3. Teammate Aaron Phillips defeated Javier Saab in the No. 2 singles sport 6-0, 6-3. Jarrod Epkey compiled a score of 5-7, 6-0 (13-11) to defeat Ross Gehlhausen at the third singles position. Ball State contined their lead after winning the remainder of their singles spots.
In doubles action brothers Joe and Jarrod Epkey took the number one slot after posting an 8-5 victory over Javier Saab and Gregory Sosa. The duo of Phillips and Jorge Rodriguez defeated the twosome of Tsuyoshi Yamabe and Gabrielle Garcia by a score of 8-1 to win number two doubles while teammates Jose Perdomo and Bret Berryman closed the day with a defeat over Dean Guyer and Garcia.
Ball State returns to action Sunday, Jan. 14, as they host DePaul at the YMCA Tennis Center. The match is set to begin at 1 pm.
