Women's Volleyball Ends Non-Conference Slate with 3-0 Win at Butler

Indianapolis, Ind. - - The Ball State (4-10) women's volleyball team turned in its best performance of the season Tuesday night at Hinkle Fieldhouse, recording a 3-0 (30-16, 30-20, 30-18) sweep of Butler (5-11) to end its non-conference schedule with a road win. With the victory, the Cardinals completed a sweep of in-state opponents, after defeating IPFW and IUPUI earlier in the season.

The second game was the closest of the night, with the teams battling to an 11-11 tie, before back-to-back kills from Cochran gave BSU the advantage for good. Butler would answer with the next point, before a 5-1 BSU run - - capped by a Kennedy and Angie Parrell (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights H.S.) block assists - - gave the Cardinals a five-point lead at 18-13.
Ball State would claim its first 10-point advantage of the game at 28-18 on a Cochran kill, while Breivogel ended the set at 30-20 on a kill of her own.

Gibson would give BSU a 10-point lead in the third game at 19-9, while a Kennedy kill kept the edge at 10-points at the 24-14 mark. Butler would follow with a three-point run to get within seven points at 24-17, before a 6-1 BSU ended the game at 30-18 and the match at 3-0.
Kennedy would finish the match with eight kills, a match-best four total blocks, two aces and a dig, while Parrell scored a match-best 38 assists to go along with five digs, four kills, two blocks and a pair of aces.
Senior libero Amanda McCormick (Muncie, Ind./Burris H.S.) would pace all players with 25 digs in the victory, with 21 digs coming in the first two games. In addition, May added six kills, five digs, an ace and a block in the victory, while Gibson posted five kills and three blocks.
Also factoring in the match were freshman Ana Gabriela Pedrosa (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/Colegio Arnaldo) with seven digs, senior Stephanie Bacan (Remsen, Iowa/St. Mary's H.S.) with four digs and three assists and freshman Madison Monk (Granger, Ind./Penn H.S.) with a pair of digs.
In addition to hitting a season-best .278, the Ball State defense limited Butler to a .025 ( 23-20-118) rate of success, which is a season-low for a BSU opponent. BSU also held a 65-49 advantage in digs, a 7-4 lead in blocks and a 5-0 edge in aces.
Porshia Allen led the Bulldogs with a team-best six kills, while Nina Inic pace Butler with 10 digs.
Ball State returns to action Thursday, when the team opens Mid-American Conference home action versus the Toledo Rockets at
