Women's Volleyball Topped by Western Kentucky

Bowling Green, Ky. - - The Ball State women's volleyball team closed play in the Lady Topper Invitational with a 0-3 (24-30, 24-30, 28-30) setback to host and tournament champion Western Kentucky Saturday evening at E.A. Diddle Arena. With the loss, the BSU falls to 2-8 on the year, while WKU improves to 11-5.
Senior Amanda McCormick (Muncie, Ind./Burris H.S.) earned recognition on the all-tournament team after posting a match-best 23 digs versus Western Kentucky and 92 total digs for the tournament.
Freshman Julie Breivogel (Boonville, Ind./Boonville H.S.) paced the Cardinals attack with 13 kills in the contest, while adding one digs and a solo block.
After falling behind by as many as six points, including the 17-11 mark, the Cardinals rallied to tie the opening game at 18-18 on a kill from freshman

After playing to a 10-10 tie, a 4-0 Lady Topper run would give Western Kentucky a lead it would maintain until the 27-27 mark. The hosts would then end the match with a 3-1 run, winning the game 30-28.
Senior
Alcorn finished the contest with five digs, two assists and one kill, while Kakatolis collected four kills and two blocks.
Freshman Cassie Conner (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township H.S.) earned her second career start as setter in the contest, posting 29 assists, seven digs and two kills.

Overall, the Cardinals hit .148 (38-21-115) in the match, compared to .292 (57-17-137) for the Lady Toppers. BSU held a 54 to 53 edge in digs, while both teams tallied four aces. WKU won the battle at the net with 11 aces to BSU's 7.
Western Kentucky's Jenna Gideon paced all players with 19 kills in the match, while Erica Hardy tallied a team-best 15 digs.
