Schumacker Leads Soccer to 2-1 Victory at Butler

Indianapolis, Ind. ? The Ball State soccer team battled to its fourth victory of the season as the Cardinals picked up a 2-1 victory over regional foe Butler on Thursday afternoon at the Butler Bowl. Sophomore Sarah Schumacker led the attack as she scored both of the Cardinals goals in-state contest.
"Today wasn't our best game of the season but we played well enough when we needed to, to secure the victory," head coach Michelle Salmon said.
Ball State controlled play for most of the first half as the Cardinals out-shot the Bulldogs, 7-4. BSU was almost rewarded for its pressure in the 11th minute as Schumacker found the cross bar with a shot.
The Cardinals broke open the scoring in the 20th minute of action as Schumacker took a pass from Leah Johnson in the box and drilled a shot into the top corner past the diving Butler goalkeeper. The goal is the second of the season for Schumacker while the assist was the first of the career for Johnson who had just entered as a substitution.
Ball State added to its lead early in the second half as once again Schumacker found the back of the net. She intercepted a Butler pass from 20 yards out and beat Kirby Zwickel for her second goal of the afternoon.

The two-goal game by Schumaker is the first multiple goal game of the season for the Cardinals and also marked the first multiple goal game of Schumacker's career. Murphy finished the afternoon with four saves while Zwickel posted three saves in the loss for the Bulldogs.
The Cardinals will be back in action on Sunday afternoon as they welcome in regional rival Xavier to the Ball State Soccer Field. Game time is set for
