Muncie, Ind. - - The Ball State (1-1) women's volleyball team posted a 3-1 (33-31, 33-31, 26-30, 30-20) victory over IPFW (0-2) in its second match of the 2006 Ball State Nike/Active Ankle Weekend Saturday morning at Worthen Arena. In the early sessions' second match, Michigan State improved to 2-0 with a 3-0 (30-24, 30-23, 30-25) win over Xavier (1-1).
In the Cardinals' win over the Mastodons Saturday morning, it was the BSU defense which stepped up and limited the visitors from Fort Wayne to a .079 (56-40-203) attack percentage. In addition, BSU hit for a .141 (63-34-206) rate of success, including a dominating .356 (

Also turning in solid performances for the Cardinals in the win were sophomore transfer Christine Kennedy (San Marcos, Calif./University of San Diego H.S.) and freshman Julie Breivogel (Boonville, Ind./Boonville H.S.). Both newcomers logged career-high kill totals, with Kennedy scoring 19 and Breivogel recording 12.
Breivogel would add 13 digs in the contest for her first career double-double, as well as her first career service ace. Kennedy would add a match-best six block assists and would tie a career-high set least night with seven digs.

Also factoring in the win for BSU were juniors
May would collect seven kills, three blocks and a pair of aces in the match, while Parrell paced all players with 51 assists. Parrell would also collect 14 digs, four kills, a block and an ace. Kakatolis would tally four blocks, three kills and an ace in the win.
