Muncie, Ind. - - The Ball State baseball team concluded a three-game series sweep of visiting Toledo Sunday afternoon with a 13-0 senior day shutout at Ball Diamond. With the win, the Cardinals improve to 27-18 (13-7 Mid-American Conference), while the Rockets fall to 20-24 (7-14 MAC).
Ball State opened the day by honoring its 10 senior - - Kory Bucklew, Jon Byerly, Kyle Dygert, Brian Meyer, Jeff Michael, Brad Miller, Chris Pestle, Matt Singleton, Mike Sullivan and C.J. Webb.
BSU's seniors would not waste any time getting the Cardinals on the scoreboard, after a Toledo error in the bottom of the first extended the inning. Sullivan would reach base on the one out error, while Singleton hit into a fielders' choice to put himself at first with two outs.
Miller would follow with the first of four BSU home runs on the day - - his 16th of the season - - to make the score 2-0. After sophomore Justin Rogers drew a walk, Webb would belt the Cardinals' second two-run shot of the frame to move the score to 4-0.
The Cardinals extend their lead to 5-0 in the bottom of the second on a two-out RBI single from Singleton, which plated junior Eric Earnhart who was hit by a pitch and stole second.
Webb would add a solo home run in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-0, while a RBI single from Rogers in the fifth put the Cardinals ahead 7-0.
Ball State would add five more runs to the scoreboard in the bottom of the sixth, while an Earnhart solo home run in the seventh capped the scoring at 13-0.
BSU starting pitcher junior Ryan DeGeeter (7.0 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 2 K) turned in his best performance of the season, throwing seven scoreless innings to pick up his third win of the season.
