Lehe and Scully Named to Academic All-MAC Team
May 24, 2006 | Track & Field
To qualify, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative grade-point average and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. A total of 27 student-athletes were named to the 2005-06 squad. The number of honorees on the Academic All-MAC Team are the number that is set for the specific sport or 33 percent of the number of nominees, whichever is greater.
Scully will cap off her senior year at the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships, which she automatically qualified for in the 10,000-meter run. This marks the second year Scully will compete at the prestigious event. During the season, the senior posted top-times for BSU in several events, including the 10,000 (33:54.66), 5,000 (16:40.16) and 1,500 (4:34.64). Her time in the 10,000 broke the school record, while her 5,000 clocking qualified her for the NCAA Regionals.
In addition, at this season's MAC Championships, Scully was named the MAC's Most Outstanding Track Performer and an All-MAC First Team selection after winning the 10,000 and the 5,000. She earned a total of 20 points for Cardinals, which placed third at the event. Scully owns a 3.531 G.P.A. as a mathematics major.
Lehe proved a dominate force for BSU as a distance runner. She captured the team's best times in the 3,000 (10:41.46) and 3,000 steeplechase (11:13.53), while capturing third-best times in the 800 (2:26.62) and 1,500 (4:48.10). The junior owns the team's highest GPA of 3.905 as a dietetics major.
The Cardinals will send five members to the 2006 NCAA Mideast Regional Championships Friday and Saturday in Knoxville, Tenn. The event kicks of at 11 a.m. Friday.
