Track Takes Bronze at MAC Championship

Senior Jill Scully was named the MAC's Most Outstanding Track Performer and an All-MAC First Team selection after winning two events for the Cardinals acquiring 20 points. Scully notched wins in the 10,000-meter run (35:28.24) and 5,000 (16:40.16). Her time in the 5,000 is an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark and BSU best this season.
Two other athletes earned All-MAC First Team distinction including senior Jennifer McCoy and junior Tamelca Lewis. Sophomores Yvonne Ferguson and Amber Williams picked us All-MAC Second Team accolades.
McCoy won the heptathlon with an NCAA Provisional qualifying score of 5,014. The senior recorded a first-place finish in the shot put (43-07), javelin (111-05) and long jump (19-06), second-place finish in the 200 dash (25.73), third-place finish in the 100 hurdles (14.17), tied for sixth in the high jump (4-10 1/2) and placed eighth in the 800 (2:46.59) . McCoy's score of 43-07 in the shot put is a BSU-best this season.
Lewis knocked out the competition winning the triple jump with a mark of 41-08 ¾. The mark is an NCAA Regional Qualifying mark.
Ferguson earned Second Team distinction after placing second in the 400 dash with a time of 53.68. The time is a NCAA Regional Qualifying mark and Ball State outdoor track school record. Ferguson breaks the school record which she previously set this season of 53.94 on April 8. The sophomore added a sixth-place finish in the 200 dash with a clocking of 24.46.
Williams earned Second Team honors after finishing second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 13.77. The time is a BSU-best this season. Williams also placed third in the 200 dash (24.07) and fourth in the 100 dash (11.92). Her time in the 200 is also a team-best this season.
Junior Amanda Barnhart produced the fourth-best mark in the long jump with a score of 20-01 ¾. The mark is an NCAA Regional qualifying mark and BSU team-best score this season.
Off the track, senior Tiffany Notarfrancisco and junior Cara Collins competed in the hammer throw. Collins placed 15th in the (149-10), while Notarfrancisco followed close behind with 24th-place honors (132-06).
The 4x100 relay team added a second-place finish with a time of 45.60.
While team competition has concluded for the season, several athletes will compete in the NCAA Regional Championship held in Knoxville, Tenn., May 26-27.
