Track Ties for Third after Day Two at MAC Championship

Senior Jennifer McCoy blew away the competition in the heptathlon winning the event with an overall score of 5,014. McCoy finished first in the shot put (43-07), javelin (111-05) and long jump (19-06), second in the 200 dash (25.73), third in the 100 hurdles (14.17), tied for sixth in the high jump (4-10 1/2) and placed eighth in the 800 (2:46.59) . McCoy's score of 43-07 in the shot put is a BSU-best this season.
McCoy added a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 19-05 1/4, while placing fourth in the preliminary round of the 100 hurdles (14.33).
Sophomores Yvonne Ferguson and Amber Williams placed second for the Cardinals. Ferguson clocked in at 54.57 in the 400 dash, while Williams ran a time of 14.03 in the preliminary round of the 100 hurdles. Ferguson also earned fifth-place honors in the preliminary round of the 200 with a time of 24.31. Williams finished close behind placing eighth with a time of 24.59.
In the preliminary round of the 100 dash two Cardinals qualified for the final round tomorrow. Williams placed seventh (12.01) and freshman Jeanne Roberts finished eighth (12.08).
Off the track junior Amanda Barnhart took posted the fourth-best mark in the long jump with a distance of 20-01 3/4. The mark is an NCAA Regional qualifying mark and BSU team-best score this season.
Day one of the competition was highlighted by senior Jill Scully who won the 10,000 for the second-straight season with a time of 35:28.24. Earlier this season, Scully set the school record in the 10,000 with a time of 33:54.66. The time automatically qualified the senior for the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship held June 7-10 in Sacramento, Calif.
Senior Tiffany Notarfrancisco and junior Cara Collins competed in the hammer throw. Collins placed 15th in the (149-10), while Notarfrancisco followed close behind with 24th-place honors (132-06).
The Cardinals compete in the final day of competition beginning at 10 a.m. at the University of Toledo.
