Webb Named MAC West Player of the Week
April 03, 2006 | Baseball
MUNCIE, Ind. -- Ball State senior C.J. Webb (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) has been named Mid-American Conference West Division Player of the Week -- for the week ending April 2 -- after leading the Cardinals (14-11), who are riding a seven-game winning streak, to five wins last week. The award is the first in Webb's one-plus years at BSU and the second individual award for the Cardinals this season.
A third baseman, Webb batted a team-high .579 (11-for-19) and drove in eight of BSU's 30 runs — a career-high seven coming Friday versus the preseason MAC favorite Miami RedHawks — plus scored three of his own, while posting four doubles and his seventh career home run. He totaled a .947 slugging percentage and a .600 on-base percentage, while showing his defensive prowess by notching 13 assists and three putouts for a perfect fielding percentage, with most of his stops coming on liners or hard choppers to the corner position.
Ball State continues its season Tuesday with a 3 p.m. home game versus the Valparaiso Crusaders at Ball Diamond.
