Softball Falls 3-1 at Eastern Michigan

Ball State struck first with a run in the top of the second, but host Eastern Michigan countered with three unanswered runs on the way to a 3-1 Mid-American Conference softball victory Saturday in Ypsilanti.

The Cardinals got on the score board early when Allie Pennock walked with bases loaded in the top of the second to plate Taylor Yancey, giving Ball State a 1-0 advantage. Katie Pilger and Sarah McGregor each had singles in the inning.

Eastern Michigan went on top with a pair of runs in the fourth and then added an insurance run in the sixth on the way to the 3-1 final score. The Eagles posted a 7-5 advantage in hits. Besides Pilger and McGregor, Cortney Patteson, Amanda Pick and Yancey had hits for the Cardinals. Patteson's and Pick's hits were two-baggers.

Pick took the pitching loss, dropping to 6-10 on the season. She went the distance and struck out six batters in defeat.

BSU, 12-26 overall and 5-12 in the MAC, and EMU meet Sunday in a single game beginning at 1 p.m.
