Scully Breaks Record at Stanford Invitational

Senior Jill Scully broke the school record in the 10,000-meter run Friday in Palo Alto, Calif., at the highly touted Stanford Invitational. Scully finished with a time of 33:54.66, automatically qualifying for the 2006 NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships held June 7-10 in Sacramento, Calif. At the meet, the time was good for 16th-place honors, while breaking the record previously set by the senior in 2005 of 33:58.86.
Senior Jennifer McCoy and sophomore Amber Williams also competed in the Stanford Invitational. McCoy placed 14th in the long jump (17-07), Williams placed third in the preliminary race of the 100-dash (11.84) and sixth in the preliminary race of the 100 hurdles (14.34).
The rest of the squad headed to West Lafayette, Ind. for the Mike Poehlein Invitational. The Cardinals picked up 11 top-five finishes on the day. No team scores were kept at the meet.
Sophomore Yvonne Ferguson placed first in the 200-meter dash recording a time of 24.93. Finishing close behind, teammate Christina Whitt, finished second with a clocking of 25.13.
Junior Tamelca Lewis picked up a win in the triple jump recording a mark of 39-03 ¾.
Placing second for BSU were junior Amanda Barnhart and freshman Lanae Stovall. Barnhart finished second in the long jump with a distance of 18-09, while Stovall tied for second in the 100 hurdles with a time of 14.39.
The 4x400-meter relay team added a second-place finish clocking in at 4:01.53.
Junior Alison Zuidervliet picked up third-place honors in shot put tossing a throw of 41-03.
Junior Amanda Brewer and freshman Jessica Genovese placed fourth in their respective events. Brewer earned her finish in the 400 hurdles (1:04.63), while Genovese tied for fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5-02 ½.
Rounding out top-five finishers were senior Tiffany Notarfrancisco and junior Christina Poulson. Notarfrancisco placed fifth in the hammer throw (150-0) and Poulson tied for fifth in the 100 dash (12.59).
BSU returns to action April 8, in Oxford, Ohio for the Miami Invitational.
