April 01, 2006 | Softball
Muncie, Ind. - - Junior right fielder Kelli Jeziorski drove in a career-high five runs to help guide the Ball State softball team (8-11/2-1 Mid-American Conference) to a 6-1 victory over Ohio (16-17/1-2 MAC) Saturday afternoon at the BSU Softball Complex. As a team, the Cardinals tied a season-high with 11 hits in the contest.
With one out in the second inning, Cortney Patteson and Sarah McGregor tallied back-to-back singles and Shannon Sharpe drew a walk to load the bases. Abby Gross followed with a RBI single to center field to give the Cardinals a 1-0 advantage.
After a Kamilah Holle fielders' choice kept the bases loaded with two outs, Jeziorski cleared the three base runners with a double to center field, making the score 4-0.
The Bobcats would score their only run of the contest in the top of the third inning on a RBI single from Debbie Szalejko.
Jeziorski would add two more insurance runs for BSU in the bottom of the fourth with her first home run of the season to straight-away center field.
The six runs would be all the support BSU pitcher Amanda Pick would need, as she collected her second win in as many days to improve to 4-3 on the year. Over seven innings of work, Pick struck out six batters while allowing only seven hits and one earned run.
Michelle Sauter (6-6) suffered the loss for Ohio, allowing four runs on four hits over 1.2 innings of work. Candace Warden and Natalie Armstrong also saw action on the hill for the Bobcats. Warden surrendered six hits - - including Jeziorski's homer - - and two runs in 2.1 innings, while Armstrong limited BSU to one hit over the final two innings.
Patteson paced the BSU offense with three hits on the day, while Jeziorski, Pick and Gross each tallied two. Taylor Yancey and McGregor each posted one hit in the game.
