Senior Chris Pestle (Lafayette, Ind./McCutcheon) nailed three RBI on a career-high two home runs to pace the Cardinals' offense, with his first HR -- a solo shot -- coming in the bottom of the second inning and his second coming in the eighth.
Driving in the first and eventual game-winning run was senior Brad Miller (Muncie, Ind./Central) with his fifth home run of the year coming on a 2-2 count in the bottom of the first inning, assisted over the right field wall by a strong left-to-right wind.
Pestle, who has three home runs on the season, and Miller each finished 2-for-4 at the plate. Senior C.J. Webb (Mascoutah, Ill./Mascoutah) posted two hits (2-for-4) and scored a run, while seniors Mike Sullivan (Valparaiso, Ind./Valparaiso) and Matt Singleton (Ft. Wayne, Ind./Homestead) plus redshirt-sophomore Justin Rogers (St. Paris, Ohio/Graham) notched one hit apiece. Sullivan doubled in the third, moved to third on a Singleton single and scored on a throwing error by the RedHawks' first baseman.
Sophomore pitcher Tyler Pritchard (Lebanon, Ohio/Lebanon) went 7.1 innings in his sixth start of the year to improve his record to 3-1. Pritchard finished with six strikeouts and one walk, while surrendering just three hits.
Redshirt-sophomore Kyle Heyne (Coldwater, Ohio/Coldwater) entered the game with one out and runners on second & third in the top of the eighth inning, but retired all five batters faced to earn his fourth save of the season. Heyne gave up no hits or walks in his 1.2 innings pitched.
Miami's Graham Taylor (1-4) pitched all eight innings, giving up nine hits and all five earned runs, while walking one and striking out six in the loss.
The Cardinals close out their series with the RedHawks tomorrow at 1 p.m.
