Two Gymnasts Named to Academic All-MAC Team

The Academic All-MAC honor is for a student-athlete who has excelled in athletics and academics. To qualify, student-athletes must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contest for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award.
Watson, a physical education major with a 3.797 GPA, competed in every meet for the Cardinals this season. The junior owns a team-best score of 38.400 in the all-around competition while tying for team-best scores on both bars (9.650) and floor (9.750). At the 2006 MAC Championships, Watson garnered All-MAC Second Team distinction after placing seventh in the all-around competition with a score of 38.225. She recorded scores of 9.675 on vault, 9.425 on bars, 9.600 on beam and 9.525 on floor.
West, an elementary education major with a team-best 3.833 GPA, competed in eight meets for BSU during the 2006 campaign. The junior tied for a team-best score on beam (9.650), second-best score on floor (9.700) and fourth-best mark in the all-around competition (37.650). This season, West has set personal records in four categories including vault (9.375), bars (9.300), floor (9.700) and in the all-around (37.650).
The Cardinals finished out the season with an overall record of 2-15, while going 1-5 versus MAC competition.
