Track Places Second at Southern Illinois Spring Classic

Sophomore Yvonne Ferguson led BSU earning 20 points. Ferguson won both the 200-meter dash (24.86) and the 400 dash (55.74). Senior Jennifer McCoy chipped in 18 points winning the 100 hurdles (14.19), placing fourth in the long jump (19-02) and sixth in the javelin throw (118-06).
Junior Tamelca Lewis won the triple jump with a mark of 39-10 ½. Lewis added a seventh-place finish in the long jump (18-01 ½). Senior Jill Scully notched a win in the 1,500 4:36.07.
Earning second-place honors were junior Amanda Barnhart and sophomores Christina Whitt and Amber Williams. Barnhart posted a mark of 19-09 ½ in the long jump, Whitt ran a time of 56.71 in the 400 dash and Williams recorded a time of 14.22 in the 100 hurdles.
Finishing third for BSU were junior Amanda Brewer and freshman Jeanne Roberts. Brewer finished the 400 hurdles in 1:04.20, while Roberts posted a clocking of 12.22 in the 100 dash.
The 4x400 relay team won the event with a time of 3:51.92. The 4x100 relay finished second with a time of 47.00.
The Cardinals will divide as a team next weekend sending athletes to Palo Alto, Calif. for the Standford Invitational and West Lafayette, Ind. for the Mike Poehlein Invitational. The Stanford Invitational is held March 31 through April 1, while the Mike Poehlein Invitational is a one-day event held April 1.
