Eighth-ranked Oregon State made an early statement, scoring two runs in the bottom half of the first on the way to a 6-1 victory over Ball State Friday in day two of the Bulldog Classic at Fresno, Calif.
The Beavers added three more in the fourth and another in the sixth to jump out to a 6-0 advantage. Ball State's lone run came in the seventh inning, when Amanda Pick began the inning by getting to first base on an error and then eventually scored on Sarah McGregor's two-out double to right field.
The Cardinals managed just three hits to OSU's 11. Besides McGregor, Pick and Abby Gross each had hits. Starter Quincy Duran took the loss, yielding five runs over the first four innings.
Fresno State clobbered BSU with nine runs in the third and then two more in the fourth and fifth. The Bulldogs accumulated 12 hits. FSU pitcher Robin Mackin threw a no-hitter against the Cardinals. She had 11 strikeouts. Pick took the loss, giving up the first six runs.
The Cardinals, 4-6 overall, wrap up the round-robin event Saturday with dates against No. 22 DePaul and No. 17 Washington.
