Scully, Williams Shatter Records at Meyo Invitational

The squad was highlighted by sophomore Amber Williams who won the 60-meter hurdles with a personal-record time of 8.26. The time currently ties for fifth-best in the nation, is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and breaks the Ball State school record previously set by Linese Gordon (8.44) in 2000. Williams' success continued in the 200 (24.38) where she placed sixth with her second personal-record time of the day.
Senior distance runner Jill Scully also shined at the meet breaking the school record in the 5,000. Scully's time of 16:31.26 is currently the sixth-best time in nation, is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and a personal record.
Sophomore Christina Whitt added a third-place finish in the 400. Her time of 55.38 is a personal record and BSU's top-time of the season in the event.
Junior Amanda Ponsot and freshman Vanessa Gilbert also recorded personal-best times in their respective events. Ponsot finished 20th in the 800 with a time of 2:11.93, while Gilbert placed 22nd in the mile crossing the finish line in 5:06.09.
Off the track, junior Terri Abraham led the Cardinals in the long and triple jump. Abraham recorded a fourth-place finish in the long jump with a mark of 19-03 1/4 and set a personal-record mark of 40-01 1/4 in the triple jump, good for sixth place. Finishing close behind Abraham in the triple jump was Tamelca Lewis. Lewis posted a personal-best jump of 39-11 1/2 to place eighth.
Adding a personal-record score in the high jump was freshman Jessica Genovese. Genovese placed 13th in the event with a mark of 5-05.
Rounding out the top finishers on the day was freshman Jeanne Roberts. Roberts placed seventh in the 60 dash with a time of 7.64.
BSU's indoor track and field team will continue its 2006 campaign at the Iowa State Classic held Feb. 10-11 in Ames, Iowa.
