Track Competes Well at Iowa State Classic; Scully Breaks School Record

Senior Jill Scully was the top finisher for BSU breaking the school record in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:31.43. The time is an NCAA provisional qualifying mark, personal record and currently ranks 22nd in the nation. Scully broke the school record time of 9:36.34 which she set during the 2005 campaign. Last weekend, the senior broke the school record in the 5,000 with a time of 16:31.26.
Sophomore Amber Williams notched a seventh-place finish in the 200-meter dash with a season and personal-best time of 24.25. Williams added a tie for 10th place in the semi-finals of the 60 hurdles (8.63).
Junior Terri Abraham found success in the long jump. The jump of 20-01 3/4 was an NCAA provisional qualifying mark and earned her fifth-place honors. The junior also scored in the triple-jump placing 22nd with a mark of 38-10 1/2. Also placing in the triple jump was junior Tamelca Lewis. Lewis finished 13th with a mark of 39-09 3/4.
In the mile, junior Amanda Ponsot posted a season-best time of 5:00.58 good for 24th-place honors.
Sprinter Yvonne Ferguson recorded an eighth-place finish in the 400 (55.58) and the 20th best time in the 200 (24.73). Christina Whitt followed close behind Ferguson in the 400 placing 15th with a time of 56.41. Teammate Jeanne Roberts added an 11th place finish in the 60 dash (7.66).
The 4x400 relay team posted a seventh-place finish with a season-best clocking of 3:42.81, while the distance medley relay team turned in a 15th-place finish with a time of 12:23.82.
Up next, the Cardinals will host the Ball State Triangular held Feb. 17 beginning at 4 p.m. in the Field Sports Building. The meet is the squad's final home meet of the season.
