Women's Volleyball Scores Sweep at Toledo

Toledo, Ohio - - The Ball State (9-17; 6-8 Mid-American Conference) women's volleyball team continued its dominance over Toledo (7-2, 4-10 MAC) Saturday afternoon, scoring a 3-0 (30-23, 30-17, 30-27) victory over the Rockets at Savage Hall. With the win, the Cardinals have posted 39-straight victories over Toledo including 19 sweeps, 13 four-set victories and seven five-game wins.
In today's victory, BSU's offense combined to hit a season-best .306 (52-14-124), while limiting the Rockets to a .100 (39-26-130) rate of success - - including a -.007 mark through the first two games.
Freshman
Junior setter Angie Parrell (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights H.S.) would quarterback the Cardinals to its season-high .306 attack percentage, with a match-best 42 assists, while adding a .571 (4-0-7) attack percentage of her own. She also added six total blocks and five digs.
Senior
Cochran would also finish the match with a .367 (
Freshman Julie Breivogel (Boonville, Ind./Boonville H.S.) also collected double-figure kills in the match, logging 11 to go along with two digs a block and a service ace.
Defensively, senior Amanda McCormick (Muncie, Ind./Burris H.S.) led all players with a match-best 31 digs, including 15 in the first frame. Overall, McCormick has tallied 30-or-more digs in each of the last five matches. McCormick's 31 digs in today's win raises her national-leading digs-per-game average to 7.61.
McCormick would also tie her career-high with two kills, marking the fourth-straight match the libero has added at least one kill.
The Cardinals came out strong in the opening set, pulling ahead 5-1 and never looked back. A Breivogel kill would give BSU its largest lead of the game at 20-10, while a Cochran kill ended the set at 30-23.
Toledo would manage to score the first two points in the second game, before three-straight errors gave BSU a 3-2 lead. After playing to a 7-7 tie, another Breivogel kill sparked an 8-1 BSU run to put the Cardinals ahead 15-8. Ball State would eventually win the game by 13 points at 30-17.
In the third set, Ball State would pull ahead 3-1 and build a six-point lead at 18-12 on a Stephanie Bacan (Remsen, Iowa/St. Mary's H.S.) service ace. Unlike the first two games, the Rockets would rally to tie the set, scoring nine of the next 12 points to push the score to 21-21.

After a Toledo timeout, the teams traded the next 10 points, with
Gibson would lead all players at the net with seven block assists, while adding five kills and a dig. May would log nine kills, two blocks, a dig and an ace in the victory.
Bacan would finish the match with five digs and two aces, while Pedrosa logged four digs and an ace.
Also factoring in the win for the Cardinals were freshmen Cassie Conner (Willow Springs, Ill./Lyons Township H.S.) and Madison Monk (Granger, Ind./Penn H.S.).
In addition to out-hitting the Rockets, Ball State held a 57-51 lead in digs, a 10-4 advantage in blocks and a 5-3 edge in aces.
Sarah Kreher paced Toledo with 10 kills in the match, while Ashley Rucki logged a team-high 17 digs.
Ball State concludes the regular season this weekend, when it hosts Eastern Michigan Friday and Central Michigan Saturday. Both matches start at
