Gymnastics Suffers First Loss of Season to Ohio State

MUNCIE, Ind. -- The Ball State women's gymnastics team suffered a 188.750 - 184.675 loss to Ohio State Saturday evening in Irving Gym. Junior Kelly Watson led the way for the Cardinals by winning the floor exercise and finishing second in the all-around competition.
Watson scored a 9.575 to take the top prize on the floor and a 37.425 in the all-around. Junior Lauren West chipped in with second-place finishes on beam (9.575) and floor (9.525).
Sophomore Erica Gilkerson opened the season with a strong performance on vault. Her score of 9.650 earned second-place honors and set a new personal record. In her first competition as a Cardinal, freshman Natalie Hesler added a fourth-place finish on beam with a 9.525.
The Ball State women's gymnastics team will return to action Sunday, Jan. 15, when it opens Mid-American Conference competition at Northern Illinois.
