TEAM CAMP INFORMATION
This marks our fifth year of Ball State Volleyball Team Camps and we couldn't be more excited about it. The past four year's team camps were huge successes. Teams from Illinois, Michigan, Ohio, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Indiana, benefitted from the formula of training and competition. The level of play was outstanding, as many of the teams in attendance were powers in their respective states. What we and many of the coaches in attendance were most pleased by is the balance between training and competition our camp achieved.
PHILOSOPHY
• Maintain the perfect balance between individual skill training, team training and competition.
- Ball State University and Ball State Volleyball Camps maintain the philosophy of instruction and training—these camps aren't simply play days.
- Ball State volleyball has won many championships in recent years—we want to offer teams participating in camp the same formula for success.
- Ball State team camps provide a formula that allows for individual position training, team training and tournament play to have equal focus.
• Provide an environment whereby the Ball State coaching staff, camp staff, and high school staff work closely together throughout each session of camp.
• Provide morning coaches workshops conducted by BSU Head Coach Randy Litchfield. There is no additional charge.
AGENDA
• Morning sessions
- Position skill training
- Combination training (i.e., setters working with hitters)
- Campers crossing school boundary lines and training with other campers is very motivational
• Afternoon sessions
- Focus on team training and concepts
- Modified competition and wash drills - coach controlled
• Evening sessions
- Each evening and the final morning will be tournament play
- Regular re-pooling will allow competition against a variety of opponents as well as keeping a focus on like-teams competing against one another
Coaches are encouraged to contact the Ball State Women's Volleyball office (765-285-8225) as soon as possible to reserve a spot for their team(s). Completed application forms and deposit must then be received to guarantee their spot. A minimum of ten and a maximum of fourteen athletes should comprise the team for acceptance into camp. If your team has twelve or more athletes involved, two competing groups can be accommodated during team play sessions, allowing your school to maximize its playing experience. More than one team per school is acceptable, i.e., varsity and junior varsity. Due to space requirements, a maximum of 17 teams can be accepted into camp.
BONUS: Your school's coaching staff will benefit from complimentary participation in workshops during camp.
POSITION CAMP INFORMATION
CONCEPTS
- Specifically train the camper in the skills and strategies of their selected position of middle hitting/blocking, outside hitting/blocking, setting or libero/backcourt skills. Approximately 80% of training will be specific to selected position.
- Focus training from basic skill work to advanced skills as they relate to chosen position.
- Combine campers from other position areas to train in small group. Team concepts in offense, defense, and transition.
- Camp will include coach-controlled team play whereby campers from various positions are brought together and six-on-six play is emphasized.
CHOOSE FROM THESE POSITIONS:
Setting
- Heavy focus on footwork, fundamentals, and accuracy.
- Beginning setters will receive the instructed repetitions mandatory for improvement.
- Advanced setters will train with jump setting, complex offenses and strategies.
- All setters will work with live hitters and backcourt players in game-type situations.
Libero/Backcourt
- Emphasis on the building blocks of volleyball - serving, passing and defense.
- Younger campers will focus on improving these core skills of volleyball.
- Advanced campers will train in areas like floor recovery techniques (rolling, sprawling, etc.), serving styles and strategies, and "hands" passing.
- This area is excellent for any position player who wishes to
focus on their backcourt skills; it will also cater heavily toward
the libero (new to many states in 2006).
Middle Attack/Block
- Emphasis on footwork skills necessary in attacking, blocking, and transition.
- Heavy focus on armswing training.
