Women's Volleyball Captures Georgetown Hoya Classic Title

Washington, D.C. - - With a 3-1 (30-20, 25-30, 30-25, 30-28) victory over Yale (1-1) Saturday evening, the Ball State (5-3) women's volleyball team captured the title of the 2005 Georgetown Hoya Classic. BSU did not face host Georgetown after the morning's session of play was delayed.
Senior Rachel Refenes (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran H.S.) was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player after collecting 19 kills and six total blocks in the championship match. With the 19 kills, Refenes is one shy of 1,000 for her career.
Joining Refenes on the all-tournament team were junior Amanda McCormick (Muncie, Ind./Burris H.S.) and sophomore Angie Parrell (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights H.S.)
Against Yale, McCormick tallied a career-high 35 digs, along with a service ace and three assists. Parell posted career-bests of 53 assists and 11 kills. She also collected seven digs and four total blocks.
Also posting double-figure kill totals in the contest were Kirby Gibson (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) and Kelly Cochran (LaPorte, Ind./Michigan City Marquette H.S.) with 12 and 16 respectively.
The Ball State women's volleyball team will return to action and Worthen Arena Wed, Sept. 14 with a 7 p.m. match vs. Butler.
