MUNCIE, Ind. - - Ball State baseball senior relief pitcher Erik Morrison (Hanover, Ind./Southwestern H.S.) was one of 73 baseball players in the country - - and the only Mid-American Conference student-athlete - - to be named to a Louisville Slugger All-America Baseball Team for the 2005 season. Morrison was selected to the second team, becoming just the 14th player in school history to earn All-America accolades.
Morrison, who was named the 2005 MAC Pitcher of the Year, finished the regular season as the NCAA's saves leader with a Ball State and MAC single-season record tying 15. The 6-2 right-handed hurler posted a 1.32 ERA and helped guide the Cardinals to a 38-18 overall record - - the fourth-best win total in school history - - and the MAC West Division Championship.
In addition to his 15 saves, Morrison - - a First Team All-MAC selection in 2005 - - finished the season with a perfect 7-0 record. In 41.0 innings of work over 28 appearances, he limited opponents to a .208 batting average (31-for-149), while recording 41 strikeouts and issuing just 12 walks. Morrison only surrendered eight runs on the year, with just six being earned.
A two-year letterwinner at Ball State, Morrison had only made 13 appearances for the Cardinals prior to the 2005 season, posting a 1.93 ERA over 18.2 innings of work. He did not have a decision or a save at Ball State entering his final year of eligibility, after spending his first two seasons at Marian College.
