Women's Volleyball Streak Snapped at Eastern Michigan

Ypsilanti, Mich. - - The Ball State (17-9; 10-5 Mid-American Conference) women's volleyball team saw its seven-match winning streak snapped Friday evening with a 0-3 (28-30, 29-31, 21-30) loss at Eastern Michigan's (20-6; 13-2 MAC) Convocation Center.
Despite the loss, BSU senior middle attacker Rachel Refenes (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran H.S.) paced all players with 21 kills in the contest. In addition, she recorded a .318 (

With her 10 kills, Obras moved her career total to 1,896, making her 12 shy of the all-time MAC mark of 1,907 set by Northern Illinois Tera Lobdell (2001-2004). Obras also collected three blocks in the loss.
Senior middle attacker Kristin Westhof (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport H.S.) would add four kills and a dig in the contest, while junior middle attacker Kirby Gibson (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) netted one block.
Redshirt sophomore setter Angie Parrell (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights H.S.) logged 41 assists, two kills, two blocks and a service ace in the match, while freshman setter Lanee Mikesell (St. Henry, Ohio/St. Henry H.S.) entered as an opposite side attacker in the third game, collecting a career-high two blocks.
Also factoring in the loss were senior defensive specialist Stephanie Bacan (Remsen, Iowa/St. Mary's H.S.) with four digs; junior outside attacker Heather Burleson (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian H.S.) with six digs, a service ace and a kill and sophomore middle attacker
On the evening, Eastern Michigan out hit the Cardinals .220 (51-20-141) to .139 (49-29-144). EMU also held an 11-9 edge in total blocks. BSU posted a 57-51 edge in digs and a 2-0 advantage in aces.
Becky Baltare paced the EMU offense with 16 kills, while Melissa Bartlett added 10 and Lindsay Piccolini recorded 10. Ashley Cudney led the Eagles with 14 digs.
