Women's Volleyball Falls at Northern Illinois, 3-2

DeKalb, Ill. - - The Ball State (10-8; 4-4 Mid-American Conference) women's volleyball team's road woes continued Saturday evening, with a 2-3 (30-23, 27-30, 30-28, 27-30, 13-15) setback to Northern Illinois at Victory E. Court in DeKelb, Ill.
The Cardinals maintain a 6-1 record at Worthen Arena, while posting a 4-7 record away from the facility, including a 1-6 mark in true road matches.
Offensively, the Cardinals were paced by Rachel Refenes (Milwaukee, Wis./Milwaukee Lutheran H.S.) who collected a season-high 24 kills. She also added a match-best seven total blocks and three digs.
Senior Sarah Obras (Pendleton, Ind./Pendleton Heights H.S.) and junior Kelly Cochran (LaPorte, Ind./Michigan City Marquette H.S.) each tallied double-doubles in the contest with Cochran collecting 18 kills and 21 digs and Obras slamming 14 kills and 14 digs.
With her 14 kills, Obras moved her career total to 1,817, which is 10 shy of the all-time school record set by Megan Hammons (1998-2001) at 1,827,
Junior libero Amanda McCormick (Muncie, Ind./Burris H.S.) paced the Cardinals with 28 digs in the match, while senior defensive specialist Stephanie Bacan (Remsen, Iowa/St. Mary's H.S.) earned 10.
Also factoring in the loss were senior Kristin Westhof (Fruitport, Mich./Fruitport H.S.) with three kills, four blocks and one dig; junior Heather Burleson (Indianapolis, Ind./Perry Meridian H.S.) with two kills and one dig; junior Kirby Gibson (Lafayette, Ind./Jefferson H.S.) with six kills and two blocks; sophomore Angie Parrell (Black Earth, Wis./Wisconsin Heights H.S.) with 52 assists, nine digs, four blocks and three kills; and sophomore
