Hershey, a member of the tennis team from 1984 through 1988, Hershey and teammate Eric Nixon won the MAC Championship at No. 1 doubles as sophomores and juniors after claiming the MAC’s No. 3 doubles crown in their freshman seasons. As seniors, Hershey and Nixon advanced to the NCAA Tournament in doubles and ranked as high as 12th in the country before finishing the season ranked 18th in the nation. As juniors, the duo advanced to the semifinals of the prestigious Volvo Fall All-American Tournament plus won the district championship in doubles. As a singles player, Hershey won the No. 1 flight as a junior and the No.2 flight as a senior. He was a three-time All-MAC selection and helped Ball State to four straight conference crowns.
