Clary, a three-year letterman on Ball State’s football team as a wingback, started every game in his final three seasons plus was a three-time Academic All-America Second-Team selection and a three-time Academic All-Mid-American Conference First-Team choice. He lettered in football in 1978, 1979, and 1980, and received the team’s Offensive Consistency Award after his senior campaign. Clary led BSU in pass receiving as a sophomore and junior before finishing third on the team in 1980. In 1979, he was chosen as the recipient of Ball State’s Football Scholar-Athlete Award.
