Brown paced Ball State in both rushing and scoring for three consecutive football seasons from 1956 through 1958, gaining All-Indiana Collegiate Conference honors twice and All-America laurels as a senior.

He went on to become a three-time Pro bowl selection and to rank among the all-time National Football League leaders in numerous categories, playing with the Philadelphia Eagles and Baltimore Colts.
