Tamara Bowie

Bowie, a member of the Ball State women’s basketball team from 1999-2003, was the first women’s basketball player in Mid-American Conference history to be drafted in the Women’s National Basketball Association Collegiate Draft. Bowie, who was the 2001 and 2003 MAC Player of the Year, was a three-time All-MAC First-Team choice and a two-time All-MAC Tournament selection. Bowie completed her career as Ball State’s all-time leading scorer with 2,091 points. She also completed her career ranked No.1 in school history in blocked shots and games played plus No. 2 in rebounds. Bowie helped Ball State to an 80-40 all-time record, including a 44-20 MAC mark in her career. She guided the Cardinals to the school’s first-ever postseason appearance with two straight berths in the WNIT.

After retiring from the WNBA, Bowie spent three years as an assistant coach at Maryland and was on the 2006 staff for the team’s NCAA National Championship. Bowie is currently an agent executive assistant for State Farm Insurance in Georgia. She has one daughter – Lorien Pelote-Bowie.
